Phillip Bougere Memorial Scholarship Awarded

January 4, 2017

Each Spring, the Ponchatoula Jaycees select a senior from Ponchatoula High School to be awarded our Phillip Bougere Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. This scholarship is awarded through a selection process of several candidates. We choose the recipient based on the criteria of academic and civic merit . Candidates must apply for the scholarship and in addition to holding good grades, they must also be involved in extra-curricular activities both in and out of school. Our scholarship committee chairperson attends Senior Awards Day at PHS and presents the scholarship to that year's recipient The recipient receives their check after he/she has completed his/her first semester at SLU. The qualifications for receiving the scholarship are that the student enrolls at and attends Southeastern Louisiana, completes the first semester with a "C" average, and shows that they are registered for the Spring semester. Our 2016 recipient was Miss Marianna Carter. Marianna finished her Fall semester at SLU with a 3.571 GPA, made the President's List, and is registered for 18 hours for the 2017 Spring semester. We presented Marianna with her check at our January 4th chapter meeting We are very proud of Marianna and we wish her the best of luck!
