35th Annual Strawberry Strut a Success

The Ponchatoula Jaycees hosted the 35th Annual Strawberry Strut 1 mile Fun Run and 5K and 10K races through downtown Ponchatoula on Sunday April 9th. This year's race hosted an amazing 240 registered runners!!

 

This year's Strawberry Festival King, Mr. Bill Wheat, opened the race with a prayer, and Garrett Aldridge sang the National Anthem. Race participants each got to enjoy fresh strawberry shortcake after the race, made from prized award winning berries from the Strawberry Auction.

 

Race winners were announced on the south stage on the fair grounds immediately after the race. We had a creative strawberry costume contest and would like to recognize Ms. Julie Bell as this year's costume winner.

 

The top three 5K overall MALE winners were:

1st place -Lane Perillaux,, 21 years old of Ponchatoula with a completion time of 18:20

2nd place - Kevin McNeill, 23 years old of Covington with a completion time of 19:59

3rd place - Jonathan Monk, 15 years old of Ponchatoula with a completion time of 20:00

 

The top three 5K overall FEMALE winners were:

1st place - Angela King, 50 years old of Husser, with a completion time of 24:18 

2nd place - Malissa Aldridge, 39 of Hammond, with a completion time of 26:09

3rd place - Julia Lama, 11 years old of Ponchatoula, with a completion time of 26:11

 

The top three 10K overall MALE winners were:

1st place - Raymond Huerta, 26 years old of Denham Springs, with a completion time of 37:03

2nd place - Lucas Coleman, 18 years old of Hammond, with a completion time of 40:31

3rd place - Jason McNeil, 23 of Baton Rouge, with a completion time of 40:38

 

The top three 10K overall FEMALE winners were:

1st place - Ashling Osness, 15 years old of Long Beach, MS, with a completion time of 44:42

2nd place - Deboarh Shuman, 45 years old of Hammond, with a completion time of 49:10

3rd place - Abigail Osness, 10 years old of Long Beach, MS, with a completion time of 51:24
