The Ponchatoula Jaycees held our inaugural Toast of Tangi ceremony this past Saturday night at The Event Center in Hammond. With between 115-120 tickets pre-sold, there was standing room only.
After enjoying a brief cocktail social, 2017 Ponchatoula Jaycees Chapter President, Brad Matherne gave opening remarks. He asked honoree and pastor of Crossgate Church, Louis Husser, to say the invocation, which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by U.S. Navy Veteran and honoree, Cindy Newton. Guests then dined on a three course meal catered by Mary Monteleone. After dessert, President Brad introduced our Master of Ceremonies for the evening, Mr. Johnny Chauvin, who took it from there. Johnny introduced one at a time, in alphabetical order, each award recipient by reading their personal bios that detailed the very reasons why each one was selected for this honor. In total, we recognized and awarded eleven outstanding Tangipahoa Parish citizens. Each one has given selflessly and generously of his or her time, energy, and in some cases even their own finances, to ensure that our parish is a better place to live for those who choose to live here. It's because of their kindness, compassion, dedication, and humanitarian spirit that we were honored to honor this outstanding class of Tangipahoa Parish volunteer citizens.
The Jaycee Creed is simple statement of beliefs that unites Jaycees around the world in a bond of friendship and purpose, and these 65 words have become the third most important document in the lives of many, many people worldwide. The last line of our Creed reads, "Service to Humanity is the Best Work of Life!" Each one of this year's honorees exemplifies that line in all that they are and in all that they do. Thank you again, 2017 honorees!
We would like to extend appreciative acknowledgment to all those who helped to make this first annual event the incredible and classy success that it was. Thank you to our distinguished dignitaries who were in attendance at the banquet; Ponchatoula Mayor Bob Zabbia and his wife Kim, 21st Judicial District Court Judge Jeff Johnson, and Dr. Westmoreland and his wife Patricia. Thank you Mr. Johnny Chauvin, veteran broadcaster with Tangi 96.5, for serving as our emcee for the evening. You did a phenomenal job! Thank you again to all of you who answered the call, and nominated these amazing eleven individuals for the recognition they so rightfully deserved. It is you who made this event even possible. Thank you to all of the family and friends who came out to support these honorees that you obviously respect very much. Thank you to Mr. Sal Tantillo and his wife for helping us with the rental and setup of your lovely venue. Thank you to Mary Monteleone for catering the delicious meal. Thank you to Angelina Quigley for capturing all of the special moments that evening with her professional photography. Lastly, thank you to all of the Ponchatoula Jaycees members who worked tirelessly, especially towards the end, to pull this event together and make it fittingly appropriate and representative of its purpose.
